Crafty activities for little minds

With the never ending rain keeping us all indoors, and the threat of corona virus meaning mass play dates could be an even more hazardous passtime than usual, we thought it might be a good idea to round up some activities that will keep little people entertained whatever the conditions.

I love this brand for sustainable gifts or party bag fillers. Each gift can be personalised and there is a theme to suit even the most eclectic of tastes. I always order a few extra to have a ready made craft activity on hand for dull days at home. And the best bit is that you have something useful to show for your efforts. I am particularly loving the ice-cream bracelet kit at the moment - every little girls dream.

I love the concept behind this brand, activities to keep your little ones occupied so that they won't even notice if its raining. Rainy Day Box offers a subscription service, so from £6.99 you will be delievered a monthly box full of seasonal crafts and activities. You can tailor your box to the gender of your child if you like, and each box comes with a reward chart, though we doubt your little one will need any more incentive to take part. We love that this pops through the door just when you need it, and think it makes a really fun alternative birthday gift.

Toucan Box is another great craft subscription service, but its also a super online resource for those last minute crafting moments. Full of fun, innovative crafts that are easy to achieve with things you may have hanging around the recycling bin, this is our first stop for rainy afternoons when we are feeling a little low on inspiration. These fun rain makers are next on our to do list.

If like me you hate all things glitter, then Quick Crafts by Emma Scott-Child is a must read craft bible. This book has become an instagram favourite, full of fun and creative ideas, without any sparkle in sight. The comprehensive 'stock' list at the start of the book is super helpful, I suggest doing a mass Amazon order along with the book in order to create the ultimate crafty toolkit. You will never be stuck for ideas again.

Of course if the sun does ever make an appearance then we love nothing more than pottering around in the garden, getting a bit muddy. We love Mud and Bloom activity boxes, to encourage children to explore nature in a fun and creative way. From £10.95 per month, these subscription boxes have been created by Forest School teachers and are full of organic gardening tasks and crafts. A great way to encourage nature play and coax even the most dedicate house cats to explore the garden.
